Nah missed it, I got the dreaded "Your estate is on TV again" phonecall too, but was out. All good i'm sure!! Always is if RTE journalism are on top of it.

Wasn't the worst. It concentrated more on the couples personal circumstances than on the estate itself. It is a bit depressing that Belmayne is the poster boy for the property crash in Dublin. I don't know why this is. There are plenty of other estates around that are in a much worse predicament. Personally I think it's great living here.

Re: Aftershock on rte
It was mainly to do with a couple who live in Belmayne being featured on it. They also mentioned that it was meant to be the next big suburb and a number of developers were all building etc etc. Seen most of it and to be honest I know Belmayne is not half of what its meant to be but its a damn sight better to the majority of places on the program. There was a place on it last night think it was in Longford and the place was still a building site and it wasnt properly boxed off so you had kids running around the left over materials and machinery, places having no street lights, very very dangerous from that point of view. I suppose with Belmayne there is areas for Kids to play and the places with machinery and equipment are ring fenced in.
Also felt a bit better that at least there is some sort of transport infrastucutre in Belmayne with the buses and new Dart station, other places shown on the show were literally in the middle of no were and no links to any near by towns. Was a bit surreal just to see it like that.
Also just on Belmayne there was a lot of people around P7 on the Saturday so there is still interest in the estate prob due to the drop in prices.

I was also told about the show but never got to see it.. I have to say I love it here in Belmayne and my god as some have already said there are estates locally that are in bad shape!! I have been here 2 and 1/2 years now and have no issues with the place at all, apart from people playing basketball late at night drives me mad the sound of it!!

Re: Aftershock on rte
I saw it. Belmayne was being picked on and always will be picked on because of the over the top, ostentatiously opulent and now infamous racy posters that launched the development. It personified the era of “property porn” and with its subsequent withdrawal the media loved it as a metaphor for the fall of the property madness. This will run and run for some time yet but I wouldn’t worry too much. There is still a shortage of houses (not apartments) within the city limits and in time the Belmayne lands will probably get picked up by an investor and finished.
However, the general consensus from any of these reports is that the area itself is fine and will survive long term due to proximity to the capital and amenity/transport infrastructure. Also the family’s house looked lovely and the playground looked nice. Many in Belmayne (like everywhere) will be in NE but at least they will have decent services. This is unlike to poor sods down in Longford et al with sewage milling in their back doors.
So overall I don’t think Belmayne per say came out too bad, though that family have my sympathy as do many in today’s economic climate. I wish them the best of luck.
The production was very OTT. Lots of wide shots of unfinished houses with overgrown gardens and eerie music with the echo of kids in the background… you know… Nightmare on Elm St. style with the creepy kids singing. It really was hammed up.

Yeah I have only been here since december and have to admit I love the place!!! Never hear anything or had any trouble!!
Seems there is still a good bit of interest like one poster said always catching people viewing and there is always workers in and out of houses/apartments finishing off!!!

I pretty much agree with everything ceo said,
we bought our house in 2007 and are in NE, but we love the house. And the estate is nice and quiet,
we've got lovely neighbours, in fact the only thing I miss is the lack of a driveway
Should have bought one with a garage!
I too lost a job in the bust so i know how that couple are going through, and I sympathise with them and hope that
the chap can get a job.
We've a lot of positives here in Belmayne, but people will still try and knock it as the plans were so ambitious and obviously things aren't going quite as planned. But i'm sure in time things will work out. I wouldn't call Belmayne a ghost estate, I mean they're still working on things, just a whole lot slower.
The problem with the negative press is people blow things out of proportion, I frequent another message board and one poster said last night :
I was so angry, I mean this kind of rumor-mongering is ridiculous.
I told the poster that of course there were no "murders" and he apologised, got mixed up with the chap who was killed on the hole in the wall road outside Grattan Lodge, but still you can see how rumors start.
I'd just like a bit of balance from reports when they talk about Belmayne as I for one and really happy here.

I must say my heart goes out to the family in Belmaine. Not far from me. There's been murders in there and all. Scumbags renting in there treating the place like their own personal party house. Jesus wept.

I agree, I think we live in a top notch developement in a much desired location. We are what 5-6 miles from the city centre, close to the beach, airport, the m1, m50 etc. It would be a whole lot worse if we were commuting for hours every day which no doubt a lot of the naysayers are doing.

its not the property pin you look at by any chance? some load of nutters on that. actually delight in other people's misfortune. Naturally loving that Belmayne didnt live up to the hype and is having some problems. I think that the estate should be marketed properly, its just a normal place to live.

Re: Aftershock on rte
Didn't see the Aftershock program but lets get real about Belmayne . The first phase of the estate is well done with the square and playground , good landscaping and finish all of which attracted us to buy into P7 back in 2007. The reality now is that P7 has about 15 units out of 200 occupied, the retail units are boarded up, the courtyard feature garden is sparsely planted and open to anyone strolling around from the chipper. The grand plan will never be finished and it will be difficult to sell on these properties in years ahead. I wish the best to those who have bought but it is hard to see P7 and p5 [empty] maturing into desirable homes.

P7 will sell at those prices few months you will see a big difference people who are buying now are not being called to snag till end of June.
P5 as per pervious thread is 75 units all going to social housing!
As per the retails units that will come with time ! The estate looks very well and still a building presence on site , the roads have been done recently new entrance at Clare Hall , work is still going but just at a small pace!
Last saturday there were at least 30 people being brought around in a group to view p7 apartments and then brought around Belmayne park to look at the few houses/apartments that are left around this way!
About that entrance way into p7 I would be putting real pressure on the builders to get a gate up there no harm if your getting no where get on to Sean Kenny Labour he will fight your corner as he has been campaigning for local issues now for a while!
